Not shooting regularly has been terrible on my skill as an archer. I had limited oppotunities to shoot and hunt each negatively affecting the other. It had gotten to the point where I wasn't having fun hunting and my shooting was terrible. Trad hunting is hard, and like Terry says don't look to technology for an edge become the edge. So I decided to makes some changes with regards to my shooting.
I've been shooting on level ground most of my life but out of a tree I always have had problems. My thought is I've had too much gap to measure while shooting out of a tree. I've never shot low at a deer but over the back more times than I would like so I am starting there. Cutting down the gap when aiming became my objective. I started by switching to three under then moved my anchor from corner of the mouth to cheekbone(zygomatic arch) squarely under my dominant right eye. This has helped in a few ways. first bone is a solid anchor point giving positive feedback. second I can feel the pressure of my top finger against the bone telling me my elbow is down and string pressure is evenly distributed. Being a split vision shooter having the arrow more present in my dominant field of vision has greatly helped with aiming. Left right missed are now more form issues for me.
On top of changing my anchor and string address I've also started holding the arrow on the shelf with my left pointer finger until after anchoring the bow. This helps keep the arrow from falling, allows me to feel the point when full draw is reached, and connect my left hand to the arrow which is a tactile reminder of its position in space which I think in turn helps with the aiming.
I am now deciding if lowering my pointer finger before or after aiming is better. I am leaning towards after at this point. By doing this my shot sequence becomes anchor, aim, lower finger, release. Lowering the finger also slows down the shot and gives me more time to confirm the aiming, also I seem to pause and have a steady bow from lowering the finger as well.
I hope my hard earned insights might help someone else. Keep moving forward. I plan to be automatic by fall.
