Tab shooters, need advice...
« on: April 26, 2010, 12:42:00 AM »
Greetings All,

I recently went to a cordavan tab from a glove and have found my ring finger more often than not, burns upon release...Any thoughts??

Thanks in advance.

Happy hunting,
Jason

Sounds like the same that happened when I went to a tab. I thought I was holding too much weight with that finger and had a friend watch me shoot.  :banghead:  After 3 or4  shots he simply walked over and told me to draw but don't shoot. At full draw he told me to drop my right elbow about an inch and release. Made all the difference no more burning!  :archer:

I recently started shooting with a tab.  Spent week hunting and developed a blister on non palmside. Kind of flet like burning before bruise showed up.  You may be getting pinched by the hole.

I stretched the heck out of the hole.

I vote for high elbow, also.  Stand in front of a mirror.  Close your eyes.  Simulate drawing and anchoring.  Open your eyes.  The tip of your drawing elbow should be level with your shoulders.  A little above is OK.  If it is higher than the bottom of your ear, you need to work on lowering by using a second reference such as your pinky finger under your jawbone.  Bill

I put a thin layer of leather  on the leather inside of the tab. I cut it to the size of the leather in the tab after trimming it to fit my fingers.  I attached it with shoe gloo, after which it put weight on it until the glue was set.  This really saved my fingers, since I shoot about 100 arrows per day.

Probably a high elbow as the others suggested. But, what's helped me (shooting split-finger) is to place my index and middle finger on the string first, and as I start my draw, I add my ring finger.  Experiment, you'll figure out what is best for you.  Personnaly, I can't shoot a cordavan tab. I tried many tabs and gloves and find that a NEET calf hair tab works the best for me (like the feel of the string on my fingers.)
The work praises the man.

I have a heck of a callous on the bottom side of my ring finger because of my tab.  Doesn't hurt much anymore, but I think I'll look  into the elbow suggestion as well.

I shoot about 2-300 arrows a week. My tab is home made and considerablely thicker than most.
