Rod Jenkins GA class
« on: May 30, 2010, 01:18:00 PM »
Just wanted to let anyone wondering, that Rod's class is well worth it.  Just attended the one Keith Karr put on for us here in Ga.  Rod is a great teacher and really knows his stuff.  He's got the eye to pick out your issues and the brains to teach you how to correct it.

I've got a ton of work to do, but its actually coming along better than I thought.

That formaster is the real deal as well and having Rod there to show you how it works helped out a lot.

Thanks again, Keith for putting this together for us, and for Rod for the help.

William, I'm glad that you could attend. Rod is a great teacher and really does know his stuff. He has a knack for coaching and describes a practice program that works for everyone no matter what level shooter you are.

I've attended two clinics by Asbell and one by Rick Welch. Rod's teaching methods, in my opinion, are much more effective in making you a better shooter. Taking what he teaches serious, helps you make each arrow a perfect shot, and puts you in control of shooting the bow.

We even had a FITA shooter in our group that was ecstatic about what he learned in the clinic.

We had a good group and great day. I know my boys were excited about what they learned.

Thanks Kieth and Rod. I've already set up my blind bale and I'm determined to work on it for at least 3 weeks or more and then I'm going to do the bridge program so I can get the most out of what I've learned.
I don't have a problem.  I can quit deer hunting anytime I want.

Yep, the same as the others said Keith, tys so much for the effort it took to set-up this clinic.  Does not just happen, lots of time goes into setting up a class.  Wish that I had not been shooting WRONG for over 40 yrs. Rod said he could train a new comer much better than me. Developed many, many bad habits, as Rod said, won't change them in a one day class, but at least now I have a system to start working on my form with.  Tys Rod! great class! Oh yea, I will try an load up some pics of the clinic.

This is my first post, eventhough I've been a member for several months. I attended Rod's  class last weekend. My objective was to have a "Coach" watch how I was shooting and help me identify things that I needed to improve/change to become a much better shot/hunter. I am totally satisfied! I am excited about next season. I will not be inconsistent in my shooting. Thanks Keith for putting together the clinic and Rod for your great instructions.

I don't have it in front of me, but with the bridge program, you give yourself a certain amount of time for a practice session.  You then start off at 5 yards with a large target and shoot 10 perfect shots.  If you are able to execute your 10 perfect shots, you can now move back to 10 yards.  You have to be truthful with yourself if you are making perfect shots or not.  If you don't make a perfect shot, you go back to the blind bale (no target) and spend the remainder of your practice session there working on what made that shot less than perfect.  You continue moving back in 5 yard increments as you make you 10 perfect shots.  Rod said once you get to 20 yards, you should pretty much have your shot sequence down.

With Rod's program, this bridge program comes after 21 days of blind bale practice with concentration on the 7 steps to the perfect shot.

A bridge program is intended to introduce "aiming" (instinctive, gap, whatever) after an individuals shot sequence has been established and developed on the blind bale. It is designed (by Len Cardinale) for the shooter to gain 100% trust in a shot sequence in conjunction with grooving muscle memory.
Find a large target. The objective is NOT to group the arows but to focus on the shot sequence. At 5 yds shoot 40 shots perfectly - no cheating - perfectly. Anything less than perfect means going to blank bale for the remainder of your practice time working on the bobbled step. Start over the next day at the distance you failed to be perfect at. Back up in 5 yd increments with perfect shots until you reach 20 yds.
This repetition will instill trust in your shot sequence. It will become a habit. The focus will be on hitting the spot you choose on an animal or target in your effective shooting range.
Rod teaches a 7 step shot sequence.1. Stance, 2.Bow Hand, 3.String Hand, 4.Anchors/Calibration, Commitment, 6. Aiming/Expansion, 7. Conclusion
WV, hope that helps.
