2010 IBO Trad shoot bows

I saw a video of the 2010 IBO trad shoot and noticed that most of the bows in the finals line up where not wooden (not that they need to be!).

Please excuse my ignorance, but is there a growing trend towards ILF metal risers and carbon limbs with better technology? Do they shoot better? just curious.

I shot that video & had similar thoughts. They seem to be getting more & more common, & that's probably not an accident. I liken it to arrows, first wood, then aluminum, now carbon.

Thanks for shooting that waiting4fall. Do you recall specific any specific bows that caught your attention. I am have been thinking of upgrading my bow and considering these types of bows.

Well for better or worse I'm  a Rick Welch DAKOTA BOW man. My 45 pounder shoots my tournament arrows @ 223 fps, & draws like butter. There are a TON of great bows out there, do some research & you'll get some ideas. Best of luck.

No offense to the guys that use theses new bows but they remind me of the compound bows and seems things are headed that way. I will admit I like all the adjustments they offer but still luv my wood and glass laminate bows. I guess the all wood guys(hate the name selfbow) feel the same way about my chosen bows. The limbs on the newest compounds hardly move at all compared to the ones I use to shoot many,many,many years ago. Whats next a stressed limb recurve or longbow? Before long that gracefully sweeping limb will be part of the past. Sorry for my ranting.......

There were a ton of wood bows there. The metal risers are mostly in the RU category.

When I took Rods class they are true center shot and the spring plunger on the arrow rest really helps when there is alittle movement at shot. The solid wood has no give if you move a little on release making it more forgiving. Still love my wood bows even if it means I have to work harder to shoot a slightly lorger group.

I actually think I saw just about every bow that you could think of. As well as alot of different ways to shoot them. Another reason to get out to this shoot to study things like this in person. In that assembly of shooters, I dare say that there probably isnt one question or problem that somebody doesnt have an answer for. Lots of homemade bows, black widows, dakotas, hoyts, fox, hummingbirds, acs, you name it.......look forward to seeing yall next year!

I don't recall if any others were wood in the final 4 but I do know that Dan was 4th in the shoot off and he shot a wood longbow. There were a lot of wood bows there and many shot very well.

No doubt the wood classics are there to stay. I am curious about tried and tested metal risers out there - I have heard good things about the Hoyt Gamemaster, DAS Dalaa and TradTech Titans.

The best shooter I saw was Ryan Ramsey. He was shooting a 3pc longbow. I got to check it out during the popup finals. Its just a wood glass rig by I think he said GF Flanigin? Nothing special but a nice bow. Really I think he could have shot a broom stick with a string on it. Most good shooters I know can shoot about anything. Not the bow. The shooter behind the bow. JMO. DB

I concur with Don. I'm about to buy a new bow and I am fortunate to be able to go up to Lancaster so I can shoot several. I haven't even decided if I'll end up with a recurve or longbow because I plan to just shoot several configurations and whichever one feels the best to me is the one I'll buy. I'm reminded of the Rick Welch video on Youtube that someone posted a few years back. Rick is walking off the range and they hand him their bow and ask him to shoot it. He shoots a great group with their bow and arrows.  It's not the bow that did that - it's Rick.
