Help - bow issue/question
« on: August 21, 2010, 05:48:00 PM »
Today I noticed that I have some significant wear on my riser. I sprayed it with power spray and then shot. My arrows are contacting the riser just above the shelf on the side closest to me. The feathers are wearing away at it.  I have an ILF so I was able to adjust the limbs a little to move them left, but what else might be causing this and what can I do to fix it?
Thanks in advance for any help.

I'm sure this is probably wrong but could you move your strike plate back a bit and (maybe) use a slightly larger one?

Your feathers are not wearing your riser.  The shaft of the arrow is making contact and that is what is causing the wear.  Your arrow is too stiff.  If you had an old fashioned bow, I would suggest playing with the brace height and tip weight, your modern bow has all sorts of adjustments that I don't have a clue about.  Your basic problem is a too stiff arrow, you are going to have to break out the book and see how to adjust the bow.  Bill

I'm no expert by any means but, have had the same issues. Bill has it right...arrows are most likley too stiff.

If you are shooting carbons you may have to go to a lighter spine. My experience has been that just going to a heaver point won't weaken the spine enough and you will only end up with a heavy arrow.

You may want to consider moving that lateral alignment back where it was.  It's not on the riser to adjust for spine issues or rest issues.

Just make sure your limbs are on the riser straight.

Thanks guys.  I realigned the limbs, moved the strike plate back and went to a 175 gr. point. I then sprayed the riser with Tinactin foot powder and it worked - no contact.  I appreciate the help.

Wow! Did I have something there with the strike plate suggestion? If only my consistency issues were as easy to resolve! LOL
