Fingers?
« on: September 23, 2010, 10:24:00 AM »
I was just wondering what the advantages to placing 3 fingers under or shooting split fingers are.  I have just started shooting a longbow seriously this year i sold all my compuond equipment and decided this is the route i want to take, but i cant decide which finger set up to shoot.  I have been trying both back and forth some days one is better than the other, but i need to decide on something just trying to find a good anchor point.  Thanks

BAM,

While shooting mediterranean style (split finger) has a long history, using three fingers under has the advantage of getting the arrow closer to your aiming (hopefully your dominant eye) eye, even if you use the same 'anchor point' for both styles.

Good eye/arrow alignment is paramount when shooting a stick bow without sights.

BTW, congrats on getting rid of the training wheels! I've been that route; and I think you're going to find trad shooting, while very challenging, a whole lot more fun. Additionally, you shoot more and tinker less!   :clapper:

Enjoy, and Have Fun!

Thanks guys, yeah it does require a lot less tuning.  I was a bow technician for 4 1/2 years and it nice to just grab the bow and shoot without taking a set of allen wrenches with me in case something goes wrong.

Shooting split finger never felt natural to me, I switched to shooting 2 fingers under...not 3..and I get better arrow flight. It just feels more natural and I get a more clean and consistent release without torquing the arrow.
John, check your messages I sent ya.
