Wood spines?

I got a Chek-mate Attila 47#@28" my draw, I was wndering what wood spine shaft I should start with. I'm going to be useing a 160gr head. I'm guessing around 60-65 spine. I ordered some CE 150's for my carbons but want to try wood arrows so just need a start place.

If you use a non-dacron string that should work very well.

Know I'm totaly screwed up, I got on Kellys chart and I'm coming up with 65-70 and 70-75. What I have read this bow is cut to center so I would need a little stiffer spine, and I'm sure it has a FF string but could be wrong on that, and with a arrow cut to 29" should add another 5# spine so thats 10-15# for FF recurve and 5# for 160gr tip for a total of 20-25# over draw weight, so 67-72# But that just sounds way to stiff, but I could be very wrong.

With the 160 gr head and the FF I can see 65-70 but I can't imagine you'd need more than that, and I'd leave those 65-70's long to start.

What about with 200gr heads should I stick to 65-70 or jump up to 70-75#?

65-70 out of that bow will be good with the 200 grain head, they are not cut past center by much and about average in performance. If ya shoot a 29" arrow with a 160 head yamay get away with 60-65# even. Shawn

I am having some problems myself. I know I have forgotten about everything I ever thought I knew.
My "new-to-me" bow is a 62" Spirit longbow 55# @ 28, my draw is 26. Where to start with woodies?
Thanks!

Right now I am shooting three bows BW MA non FF at probably 63#, Super Shrew deluxe FF @61# and a Kim Sha FF @63# I am drawing 29" and using 60-65 Douglas fir at 550 grains and 125 points. I just finished tuning the bows to the arrows (Bare shaft and feathered fly to the same spot and angle at 20yds.) I think 3rivers (maybe others) offer a trial package with several spines. That can be a good way to go. I would try to err on the side of weak since that seems to be easier to correct.

Well I got in my arrows and heads in from Kustom King today, that was fast I ordered them monday night. I ordered the 65/70# poc, all most screwed up doing that. I got my new used bow in tuesday and it has a dacron string & instead of a FF string I was hoping for. Well the arrows are stiffer then I wanted, I was going for around 29". I have to leave them full leangth. but they fly great that way. I figured when I get a FF string I can cut them down some to get the spine back right. A little disapointed in the arrows too, I have weight range of those premiem ceders from 409gr to 460gr. most of them are around 419gr but I have some under that and a couple around 450gr+. I know woods are hard to get consistant but I thought these arrows were hand spine with in 5# and 20gr +or- per doz. But other then that I was out shooting with field points and broadeheads and I was keeping 6" or less grounp out at 18-20yrds I dont think thats bad for just getting the bow in and only the first time of shooting it. I htink I can tinker with the BH and knok point to fine tune it some. But I wouldn't have second thoughts of taking it hunting this weekend, but I think I'll try to get some more time shooting it first.
By the way thanks for the help guys.
