I am brand new. My longbow will arrive this week. What is your best tip for me to get started right? Thank you in advance.

My best, for what its worth, is to recognize when you are getting tired and stop shooting.

Patience in general.

Good luck.

Make sure you're comfortable with the weight you're pulling.
Properly tuned arrows is a must...
Start close and fine tune your shots.
More then 1 tip I guess...
And by all means, have fun..
Welcome and good luck..

TW,

If you're like the average person, the first thing you're going to want to do is put up a target and try to hit it; and that's the last thing you should be doing.

The absolute best thing you can do to get off to a good start is take lessons from a good coach. If that's not possible, then get one or more of the excellent teaching DVDs that are available: "Masters of the Bare Bow III" is a very good one.

Good Luck, and above all, Have Fun!   :jumper:

Bill: Find a mentor and friend to help you. Its fun to shoot with others. As an engineer also (retired), don't be too critical of yourself. It takes proper form and practice, practice, practice.  Enjoy and God Bless

Looks like you've picked a good bow to start with in your byline, Strikers are very good bows, imho.

If the bow is controlling the shot, you have problems. You need to learn that only you control the shot. One drill that I always do, is draw back to anchor, count to 10, and then shoot, after 10, not on 10. You need to build endurance in your shot. Till you can easily draw and just sit there committed to aiming, and then decide if YOU want to shoot.
