Probably not the string.  It may be you are anchoring "hard" and when you release your fingers are coming back fast and rapping your lip.

Try this a few times.  When you release do so by pulling your hand back as you relax it so that your hand ends up 3" to 4" further back than your anchor and the fingers are extended (instead of clawed).  Imagine hitting your anchor and then pulling your hand back as the fingers open so the string stays in the same place.  It won't, but it helps me to visualize it when I think of it that way.

I bet you're using a static release (hand doesn't move much).  I'm trying to get more of a "rolling release" myself after years of a static one.  That's why I recognize the fat lip.  If you don't relax the whole back of your hand at release the fingers rap the lips.

I also have same problem but only with a certain tab I tried, that might be your issue too?

Turn you face slightly to the left when you anchor. A lot of new shooters look into the shot too much and hit their noses and lips.

As Big said, check your tab/glove.  That's more often the culprit than the string.  I some times get a little cut on the upper lip, but usually find that My tab has slipped forward on my fingers.

I will add that a second anchor will help. I put my middle finger in the corner of my mouth and my thumb nuckle behind my jaw. This helps get my head around where it's supposed to be.

Good shooting! Jason

First video yourself, I don't think you are getting into a solid anchor, sound like you are releasing just prior to it. Try this draw the bow and hold for three seconds, should give you enough time to check yourself. If you can't hold the bowstring before the count of three you may be snap shooting.

If you're shooting a tab be sure to trim it down.

Filming yourself can detect a lot of stuff going on  :)

I find a lot of folks who are having problems with the tab or the string hitting them, are actually relaxing at release, which is the real problem..... along with the common string torque flaws.

Sometimes when I'm tired I turn my head to the right (RH shooter)This gets my face in the way.

I also second what Rod says. If I'm tired I can creep/collapse, and if my head is turned...LOOK OUT LIPS!

I shoot 3 under and have noticed the same thing latly as well as my ring finger getting realy sore after every shot.  I tryed pulling more with my index finger and that solved both the problems for me.

I struggled with this malady for years. Hooking deeper enabled me to let the string do what it is supposed to - move away from my face. I no longer cut my lip. Try it. Just close those fingers better. I promise, it will resolve the issue.

I shoot 3 under & anchor my index finger behind my eye tooth & my thumb under my jaw, if I don't open my mouth a bit to anchor the ole string smacks me in the lips.
