Thank You All!!!!!
« on: April 06, 2011, 01:24:00 AM »
Let me explain.  I'm an old dude who was too stubborn to accept help, when younger.  I developed a style of aiming with absolutely no outside help.  I now know there are terms to describe everything I was doing.  I had an imaginary scale at the tip of the arrow to allow for a gap system.  Point of aim with my old Bear Kodiak Magnum, was 60yds.

All that to explain what just happened.  With all the help provided here, all the basic stuff that I should have known back then, the proper tuning, using self-video to improve form, and most of all, the video of Terry Green stacking arrows, I just had that MAGIC moment.  Not to degrade gap shooting.  I'll probably always use it to some degree, but that moment when "picking the spot", really worked.  I just recently picked up my bow again after 30yrs., and thanks to all of you it's going to be better than it ever was.

All of us old guys had on the job training when it came to archery. An old book by Howard Hill, a Fred Bear movie, a friend down the street. That was how we learned. It was pretty much guesswork and trial and error.

It proves we are never too old to learn new tricks.

Snake....I am a bonified snap shooter....meaning the snap shooter definition of our forefathers....

Please note....I DO reach anchor before I release...the shot don't go till my 2nd anchor is reached....my thumb base knuckle sliding behind my jaw under my ear.

Terry...So do you have a front anchor? Say like a tooth, then stop your fingers and just move your back elbow back till you hit your 2nd anchor? I hope that made sense.

The clips are on a post called "Cant Never Could".  They're on the second page of the "Shooters Forum", the sixth post from the bottom of the page.  I absolutely love those shooting contortions, but my old bones can't do that.  I think the video pretty much proves that if proper form is used, (bending at the waist, rather than getting the upper body out of whack) accuracy and consistancy is possible no matter the degree of cant.  Thanks again Terry

I wish I had started trad in the first place. I think many of the technical problems I have had were dragged over from the wheel-bow world. Also had to learn with no mentors to shoot with. Makes the learning curve longer. Like so many other guys have said, thanks to the forum for so much expertise to learn from.

Yeah Terry's release is awesome to watch. I've been practicing it for the last few days. I'll post a video this week and compare. So you guys can tell me what I'm doing wrong!

I am all over those videos. Wow. That's really something. I don't look anything like that. I resemble a tomcat just after a fire cracker goes off beside it.

It just confirms that I just did the right thing this morning ... pulled the trigger on new limbs for my Bob Lee ... 9 pounds lighter.

I couldn't agree more with this thread. I am just astonished at how much I don't know after hunting with a compound for better than 20 years.
