I couldnt hit my 2nd anchor tonight ??
« on: May 04, 2011, 08:51:00 PM »
I shot a little tonight and for some reason I just couldnt "find" my 2nd anchor point tonight. Im using 2 anchors and up until tonight I havent had a problem like this.Im shooting 3U and I anchor with my middle finger in the corner of my mouth applying backward pressure until my nose touches the outward facing feather, but for some reason , I couldnt find the "nose to feather" anchor tonight....even when I noticed what was going on, I tried pulling back a little more(deeper) and tilting my head down and up to try and find it...nothing worked. Anyone else ever have this problem? Im guessing its a form issue, but what was I doing wrong? Thanks....

I also use my nose as a second anchor with then cock feather.Switching to that anchor and a couple of other things has just about cured me of target panic.Back to your question. If that happens to me,I'll let down on that shot and try again. If it continues to happen,I'll go to a blank bale and shoot from 2 yards, not aiming, but just checking my form.It is probably a form problem. With that type of anchor, everything has to be lined up just right to get the nose to touch the feather(that's a good thing). It's possible that you draw hand was a little higher or lower on you face. Also, your head position could have been off just a bit.By going to the bale you can check your form without having to worry about aiming. It has and does happen to me.The best thing to do though is not continue to shoot like that.Let down when it happens and check your shot on the bale.Sometimes, our form can be a little off one day and then we can go back the next and it's there again. That's just the nature of archery.

Like Ray said here, sometimes little form changes can cause setup problems. For one check your stance, you might be too closed, which can "push" the bow shoulder out. And also like to double what Ray said about don't shoot with bad form or else you will "learn" this behaviour and you'll go down a road you don't want to travel on. Also it's not a bad idea to take some time off from shooting. Work on some drills without an arrow on the string, progress to using an arrow but no target.
