My first video to check form
« on: June 27, 2011, 03:03:00 PM »
This is the first time I've had video/pictures taken of me shooting.  I'm looking for some constructive criticism; anything that will help me improve.  Thanks for any advice you guys can provide.
Matt

Looks pretty good.....I see one thing that you might could work on....but I don't want to put any monsters in your head unnecessarily....how confident are you in your shooting?  How consistent are you?

I've been getting more consistent and pretty confident with my shooting.  I still get an occasional flyer, but can usually shoot a decent group out to about 20-25 yards.  I know there will always be room for improvement though.  The one thing I think I could do better is with the release.  When I started shooting trad it was totally dead.  I have to consciously remember to release and follow through or my hand just kinda drops right where it is.  I'm not worried about monsters so please give me your feedback.  Thanks for the reply.

Good...you are down to the 'occasional flier'.  That flier could be a hosts of things....and not the same thing everytime...and some times is mental...I wont get into that.

Here's what I see...

Just try and see if you can get that elbow around a bit more...not just 'back'....but in the 'J' shape I posted about on the form clock.  This will move your anchor point back another half inch or so...but don't be afraid to 'cozy up' to your release.

If you can do that, you will get full extension, increase back tension, and that release will 'flow' rearward without force.

Just try it and see....might feel awkward at 1st but give it a chance to soak in and see what happens.
