Form critique please...
« on: September 06, 2011, 04:25:00 PM »
Hello everyone,

I apologize up front I know its a repost but my last one was a mess and wasn't ready sooo yeah. Anyways I took a small vid and picture on separate occasions and would appreciate any input! I am currently letting my bow arm/shoulder heal properly before I try shooting again.

You are getting there...BUT...you are short drawing....you are robing yourself out of 2.5 to 3 inches of draw with the nock of your arrow that far in front of you face....

You got the right idea...just need to draw further and 'cozy up' to a deeper anchor.

I agree with Terry, make sure you are taking a deep breath as you draw, this will make you stand up straight and bring the string to your anchor.

The bow may be too short for you....or stacking.

Remember this....you must master the bow, ...DO NOT let the bow master you....even if that means getting another bow that is longer, or lighter in weight.

A 5# lighter bow will perform the same if drawn 3 inches more....AND, more importantly...YOU will perform better if you are mastering the bow..... by controlling it with ease and proper alignment.

I would think its a bit of both because yeah I feel the stacking but it also feels forced with the length being 58'' and im almost 6'3''.

I really appreciate that   :D   I do the same practice with weights at the gym, you control the weights! not the opposite lol.

I don't know what I should do I mean I'll keep practicing with it but Im down for switching to a longbow later...am I the only hialeah, FL archer? lol

You can also use a longer recurve if you feel better with them...   :campfire:

Not to sound silly but how would I go about it if I wanted a different bow? What do you suggest?

    Hey anyone want a grizzly recurve?!

What is your actual draw length ?, it doesn't look like you are over drawing that bow, but it might be stacking on you.

A grizzly recurve in good condition is a sought after bow, you shouldn't have any trouble selling it or trading it. If you can make it to a Trad.archery event, that is one of the best places to find a bow you will like. Unfortunately the season is coming to a close.

Try looking at what people have to say about there new bows and look at the pictures of them, that should help you figure out what bows you would like.

Take a look at the sponsor section.

Well I have a 75 almost 76 inch wingspan so I see my draw length being around 30-31 inches or so. It definitely will stack if I pull even further and it just feels like a small bow dimension wise.

Its a brand new grizzly recurve too I bought it like 2 weeks ago! I was thinking of contacting one gentleman WTT a similar poundage longbow. Thanks for the info though!

I was browsing the forums and came across this site.
 http://maddogarchery.com/
I've read nothing but good things about his work since finding him and that the bows he sells are a big bang for your buck. You may not find it to your taste but I thought since you are looking for a bow you might like to know about it.

I'm new to archery but I'll ad my two cents anyhow. Find a sporting goods shop or specialty hunting shop that sells bows and tell them your interested in finding your draw length. Guestimating is fine but you're going to want exact numbers to find the bow that's right for you. I got lucky with my recurve as I was ignorant to all of these things but the bow shoots great for me.

I hope you find use with what I've said. Good luck and have fun shooting.
