bare shaft tuning problem
« on: October 24, 2011, 07:42:00 PM »
I'm shooting a Kota take down recurve, 60" and 52# @28". Arrows are CX 150 with 100 grain brass inserts and 125 grain point and cut to 28.5". I'm actually drawing 27.5". Total weight is about 545 grains. My bareshafts are hitting right indicating a weak arrow. I really do not want to reduce point weight so I tried building out my rest by adding 4 layers of duct tape under my sideplate. This did very little, if anything, and I'm wondering how much I need to build out in order to make the required change ?

How much to the right are you hitting, and from what distance are you shooting ???

I'm hitting about 5" to the right at 12 yards.

I use the double-sided carpet tape that you can pick up at Lowe's for under $10, for a lifetime supply. I'd also try and use a "harder" type sideplate if you have access to anything.

Just keep adding another piece of tape........shoot and repeat until it moves your arrow far enough to the left.

Try putting a toothpick under the side plate, or a piece of popsicle stick, but eat the ice cream first.

I would take a half inch off the length. In fact, I did just that while tuning my current setup. That, plus building out the side plate by about a sixteenth did it for me. If that doesn't work, you're in the market for some new shafts!

You can also add string silencers if you haven't already. Every little bit helps.

It's easier to work with the arrows, not the bow. If you have a bareshaft without the 100gr insert, and some various field point weights that's where I would start. I'd bet same arrow without insert and a 150-175 field point would be about right.

I shoot a bow that pulls close to the same poundage as you and I use the cx heritage 250 series with a 50 grain brass insert and a 150 grain point.
