I think I've Finally reached "Arrow Euphoria" pix
« on: November 19, 2011, 08:18:00 PM »
Well folks..i owe many here great thanks in helping me get a grasp on trad barebow and instinctive aiming..been asking a lot of questions, reading/researching/learning and conquering form and my mental game..and doing well..very well..and digg'in it..and as i fumbled my way through this learning and tuning process and experimenting with every arrow i own?..this week i decided to get serious and apply what i learned/discovered..as follows..

1. Besides picture perfect form & release?.."Pristine Arrow Flight" is critical to enhancing instinctive skills.

2. I also learned that "Long Arrows Rock"..as for me?..it's just like increasing the sight radius of a firearm..the longer the arrow shaft?..the more accurate i am..shorter arrows?..not so much.

3. If i'm shooting carbon fiber?..the more limber spined the more forgiving they seemed as with the RadXweaves (mentioned below)

4. I've seen some good penetration tests that champion lighter arrows as flatter shooting w/ better penetration...and i believe it.

I've tried everything i got including 2413's (way too fat and kicked to the side hard) 2013's (shot fair but dont wanna deal w/ alum), GT5575's w/125gr points (almost but too stiff, unforgiving & harsh), 29" long RadialXWeaves 100's w/ 125gr tips..paydirt..flew like darts..but?..only have a few left and dont like them..not very durable at all..very brittle..so today?..i headed to the pro shop..and just so i know what i'm talking about had my bud who runs it check my actual draw length at this new anchor point of mine with a scaled arrow and then checked poundage on my Bob Lee Signiture Series TD Hunter Recurve..Bow is marked 54#s @ 28"s...i'm drawing 51@s at 27"s..bow is pulling 55#s at 28..so..what i decided i wanted here was..

The longest, lightest, limberest, most durable CF arrow i could find..and a lot of'em..and came up with these today...

Two dozen GT3555 XTHunter shafts cut 30"s long..bareshafted today with 100 & 125gr points..with the 125's?..they had a slight kick nock right..but with the 100grainers?..lazer beams baby!  :)

Put 3 out of three in the bull of a 20yd 5 spot at 10, 15 and 20yds and all i saw each shot was the back of my nocks..not a wiggle..not a wobble..picture perfect flight sans fletchings..cant wait to see what these babys do tomorrow morning with full helix 4" feathers..should be awesome!  :)

Now, if you wanted to go to 31" you would move up to GT5575, and would use a 145gr or 175gr tip.

Probably should try and turn this thread around towards shooting instead of arrows building so the Green monster don't come and delete it.

No offense Terry!

Just curious but did you use the goldtip shaft selection chart? My bow is similar 55@28 pulling 29-29.5 with a 31 inch arrow 125gr tip. Have been using 7595s per the chart. Id like to try the 5575's but $$$.

Yes...I did use GT's spine value chart and?..yes..i did purposefully go a spine value lower than suggested..why you ask?..simple..

I've got a slew of GT5575's i shoot off my PSE Omen Speedbow..which they are very well tuned too my 28" omen @ 54#s compound at 29"s long with standard theaded inserts (11.4gr) and 125gr points..and i tried them off my recurve..which i draw 27"s/51#s..and they were very close but came off a tad harsh/unforgiving...stiff..for me..but if you're drawing 29/29.5 on a 55#@28 bow?..and you're gonna shootem full length (or close to it which i'd recomend for sighting purposes)i'm guesstimating you're probably pulling 59-61#s in which case?..i bet you and your bow would love 5575's as opposed to the 7595's you're currently shooting.

CF arrow shafts can be a bit finicky to tune especially off trad bows as CF shafts "recover so quickly" hence have a smaller window of tunability (so to speak)..and i listened closely to Tim Gillimgham (owner of GT) during a 20 minute convo i had with him 2 weeks ago..then made my best call..which was buy long and limber as i can always chop'em down to tune instead of stuffing hideous amounts of weight up front to get'em to work..but i like light and fast..i find it works best for me accuracy wise..but like everything else?..it's not for everybody..do what works for you but yeah..if you were my bro?..i'd tell ya go ahead and blow the dough on the 5575's..as i cant imagine that you'd ever get proper spine/tuning out of 7595's off a 60lb recurve without an obscene amount of weight up front...and dealing with the arrows exhibiting the arc of a rainbow at 20yds.
