Well folks?..first let me say that "in the begining" (as the best book in history starts out like that lol)..coming off compounds i thought that finally getting serious with and properly tuning and setting up my old Bob Lee Recurve would be a breeze compared to the many gremlins compounds can hold and?..how wrong i was...along with a serious change in style of shooting came the developement of both an entirely different form (duh) and the developement of my own style/method of aiming a trad barebow..and what a trip it's been.

I started out a trad novice just a few months ago..and like all other things i do in life went all out OCD with it...researching, reading, learning, understanding, application, trial & error..the works..and as a trad novice i started out attempting to shoot my Bob Lee Recurve much like all other recurves i've ever attempted to shoot..straight up and gapping out "the window"...sad isn't it? lol!..but after coming on this and other trad sites and learning from established trad archers and then gaining and understanding the intrinsic value of such things as canting my bow, gap aiming, split vision, instinctive and toying with them all?..and with much online debate of which is best?..today?..along with my form i solidified my own aiming method as i've come to the conclusion that's there's benefits to them all..and today i thought..why just use one or two when i can incorporate all 3 into one method/style of aiming..my own..long story short?..here's what i settled on today (now that my form/anchor/release have become thoughtless habit) and it worked out real well..and simply put?..here's what i do now..
Draw and anchor at Check GAP, then transition my focus to the spot using Split Vision and at the final moment when everything looks right" just before pulling through my release?..I let my Instincts take over and make any final last minute "feels right" adjustments..basically?..i'm using gap just to start out running checks and balances on my instincts and had some wonderful confidence building success in doing so today...to the point that i was taking shooting breaks while fletching arrows and could walk out cold at 20yds and sink the first of 5 either in the bull or within less than an inch outside of it putting the remaining 4 arrows into one coffee mug sized group at 20 at least 80% of the time (with a rare yet occassional flyer here and there when i didnt release cleanly)..which is huge "trad barebow consistancy success" for me.
I went through some work/changes on my bow AND arrows as well..as it occured to me today that i moved from split finger to 3 fingers under (a couple weeks ago) and never checked my bareshafting since and sure enough?..it changed..bareshafts were striking about 6"s low at 15yds..the fix was easy..i just mounted another brass nocking point below the existing one..
i know i should've removed/moved the existing one but i crimped it on real tight and didnt wanna risk cutting up my serving..but then i noticed for some reason my bareshafts were now level with the fletched but kicking to the right..so just for giggles i pulled off the 100gr tips and tried some 125gr tips and the first thing i noticed was the bow quieted down conciderably and shot smoother as i got this group of 3 fletched/3 bare at 15yds..
done deal..very happy..even broke out some of my old beater 125gr thunderheads just to make sure that (3) 4" full helix shield feathers would be enough o stabilize them and?..
They flew beautifully consistantly striking within a couple inches of the spot i aimed at on my old morrels eternity target at 20yds..which made me extremely happy..until i pulled one of my inserts out trying to yank the sucker back out! LOL!
anyways..thanks all who helped me get to this point in just a few short months..guess i'm on my own now fabricating my own style and methods based on proper form..now it's just practice, practice and more practice..but a whole lot more intersting and fun than compounds! Thanks Again! Bill. :cool:
