3 finger under - shooting to side
« on: May 14, 2012, 07:39:00 PM »
Need some help.  I am attempting to shoot 3 under and continously shoot to the right of the target by about 4 - 6 inches.  I should also mention that I am a lefty and this occurs no matter what bow I shoot.

This does not happen when I shoot split.  Anyone have any ideas as to what is causing this?

Here is a thought.  When you shoot split finger, you are used to getting the string hand in tighter on your face and consequently the arrow nock is in tighter.  It would seem that with 3 under, you may be getting your hand to the same place but the arrow nock is higher on your face and so is out farther than you are used to.  It may be higher on your cheek bone which has moved it out to the left for you.  Another way to say it is that the arrow nock is not as under your eye due to the cheek bone as with split finger.

Take a look at that in a mirror and see.

RICK MOE IS CORRECT, I AM ALSO A LEFTY AND FOUGHT THAT SAME PROBLEM FOR SOME TIME. FOR ME I USE TO ANCHOR WITH MY MIDDLE FINGER AT THE CORNER OF MY MOUTH AND FEATHER TO MY TOP LIP, I WAS ABLE TO MOVE MY ANCHOR BACK FURTHER ON MY FACE [THUMB KNUCKLE BEHIND JAW BONE/EAR AND FEATHER TO MY TOP LIP] AND IT BROUGHT MY ARROW BACK IN LINEDUE TO A TIGHTER FIT ON MY FACE. IT WILL TAKE SOME TIME FOR YOUR BODY TO LEARN THIS NEW ANCHOR [WHICH EVER IS BEST FOR YOU] AND WILL EVENTUALLY ADJUST ITSELF ACCORDING. ALSO MAKE SURE YOUR HEAD IS INLINE WITH THE TARGET AND NOT TURNING INTO THE BOW STRING. GOOD LUCK AND KEEP AT IT,IT IS FIXABLE WITH A LITTLE WORK.

chuckbow ,  He says it doesn't happen shooting split finger so I do not believe that it is equipment related.  1/8th" change in face reference position will easily explain his 4-6" right arrow placement.

Good ideas to try! I also tried moving my face more into the string and ended up peeling the side of my nose...bloody mess.

Now I am a little gun shy, however I am convinced this is the way to go since I have observed more shooters using this method with excellant results.

Try setting you head position BEFORE you start the draw and then don't move it again.  Draw the string to you, do not go to get it.

With three under I like using my middle finger to anchor.  That way I have that arrow just about 1 in. from the center of my eye.  I slapped my nose with the string too after switching to a middle finger anchor.  Only once though!

I had the same problem. I ended up putting my hand under my cheek bone and my thumb behind my jaw bone.
