How'm I doin'?
« on: May 21, 2012, 09:43:00 PM »
You folks have been a tremendous help in my transition from compound to traditional after being away from it so long....I thank you. 'Preciate it if you'd extend the courtesy once again and let me know where my strengths and weaknesses are, what I might try differently, etc.. Throw in a drill or two that'll help and I'll dance at your next wedding!

My accuracy is getting better by leaps and bounds and I'm purely loving this new Omega. I'm pretty thick-skinned so have at it!

try holding your sight  picture at full draw for at least 2 seconds , you will be amazed at what will happen after a little time doing that! best wishes .chuck

Michael,

Looking pretty good.  I really see nothing to critique at all.  Is there a specific area you are concerned about?

Chuck, thank you, I'm working on that. In practice I'll hold and move to several different spots on the target, sometimes going through that routine as long as 5-6 seconds before the release happens. I might hold longer at longer distances, but I don't really release in a particular time frame. When the right sight picture happens the pull-thru and the resulting release just seem to coincide.

Moebow, sir, the short answer is that while I'm starting to get pretty comfortable I also know that when you're green you're gold and when you're ripe you're most often rotten. I'm always looking to improve and constructive criticsm from those who know will certainly be heeded. I do question the need for the "touching the shoulder" follow-thru that I see in a lot of shooters. Sometimes that happens for me, sometimes it doesn't, and I can't tell any difference in accuracy.

There is nothing magic about touching the shoulder.  "That is often a "staged" act that the shooter does.  The recoil of the string hand should be natural and most of your shots look as though the hand ends up in the air behind your ear.  That is really ideal.  But again, where that hand ends up is a result of the correct muscles (back) reacting to the sudden loss of the string's tension.

If your alignment is correct with the back being the primary power for holding the bow then your string hand will move straight back along your jaw (opposite direction as the arrow) and where it stops is a function of the individual's makeup.

Thanks moebow, a lot of what I've absorbed here has been from your videos, they put to sight what the printed word often can't adequately convey.....thanks again.
