consistant anchor help
« on: June 22, 2012, 04:38:00 PM »
so i have been working on back tension and have come a long way since i have been watching these videos and reading the posts.

the one issue i continue to have is getting my anchor consistant.  i know this should not be that hard, but......it is for me.

I am shooting 3 under and was trying to put my middle finger in the corner of my mouth.  that is just not enough to be consistant ant i need a second anchor reference.  i tried to find my thumb under my chin but cant get that to work.  i hear people using feather, but didnt feel right.

any suggestion on how to get a solid double anchor and consistently be able to "feel" it?

thanks

pamike,

Try this.  Keep your thumb down and back (hovering over your palm)then hook the "C" formed between your thumb and forefinger behind your jaw where it curves back up toward the ear.  Then place your base knuckle of your forefinger under your cheek bone (tight)  then your index OR middle finger will settle into the corner of your mouth.  There are three references for you.  Your actual "anchor" is in your back but the string hand references will give you a solid repeatable position for your string hand.

thanks - i think the key word in there is "tight".  when i really settle in tight against it feels right.  have tendency to release before i get to that point.

OK, now try this, then.  DO NOT aim until you have the hand tight on your face.  Once that hand is pressing on your bones, THEN line up on the target.  See if that helps the early release.

Look at the target, BUT DO NOT AIM until you have your references set at full draw.

Again, this may or may not help you but it works for many that I work with and is a recommendation of the NTS.

Mixed results with that move. I had quite a few releases as soon as I get to "fixed" anchor - DIDN'T wait to aim. Not sure wait I am feeling the need to release so quick. I was shooting a really light draw weight bow.

I am really starting to get to my anchor and I keep pulling thru - that part is working pretty good. Just quicker on the shot than I would like.

Any more thoughts?
