I'm New and Quivers...
« on: November 21, 2007, 01:14:00 AM »
My buddy "Stripstrike" directed me to this page and I think I will like it too much!
I look forward many discussions and helpful hints in the future.
For my first question, I shoot a Bighorn Recurve( love that bow)and am looking for a good, QUIET quiver that holds around 6 arrows.  Also, are there any quivers that fit a recurve that don't have foam in the hood, as I just can't think that doesn't dull broadheads going in and out.  Any help would be appreciated.  Thanks.

Your right; it dulls the heads.
I sharpen my broadheads all the time; as they can dull from taking them in and out of the quiver; or from being pushed back in after shooting loosens them up a bit.
Having the middle of the blade dulled a little might increase performance a little. The simmons broadhead; that has a concave edge makes a big hole; but so does a zwickey sharpened all along the edge and then dulled in the middle. It pushes the skin a bit; and the sharp edge at the back of the head then makes a bigger hole. I tested this out on dead game; after seeing people sharpen and dull their zwickeys that way.
So; I wouldn't be too worried about the amount of dulling that occurs. A little lubricant on the edges can encourage the foam to grab the ferrule instead of the blade.
If you take a broadhead and heat it up and push it into the foam; that can help too.
I am in favor of sharp broadheads; and I am glad your concerned. There are lots of ways of carrying broadheads; the foam is a good and popular way to do it.
I would think that quivers with double clips on each arrow - and no hold on the broadhead probably keep the heads the sharpest.
you get an A+ for caring about it

I have two Bighorn recurves and I like them very much.

I like Delta quivers.

Kwikee quivers makes a model or two that has arrow grabbers under the hood instead of foam.

To minimize dulling my heads I push a dull head into the quiver first.  After making the first cut into the foam I insert the sharp heads.

I also always remove the same head from the quiver so I am only dulling one.

If I have a pernament stand set up I keep an arrow there so I do not have to remove one everytime I hunt that stand.

What is wrong with the quiver that I gave you?  You are hurting my inside feelings.......does anyone need a bolt on leather Selway Quiver?  Welcome to the site and from the looks of the posting time you really like it.
