Test Video for Form and Open to Critique for NatureBatch
« on: February 02, 2013, 09:34:00 AM »
Hopefully this link will work and you guys can critique my form.  Have a complete open mind and really want to know what some of you think.  I am working trying to not have a static release, straight bow arm and relaxed bow hand.  I will post more once my camera charges and this works.  Thanks for the advice in advance

Also the video has been slowed down to half speed and is different clips spliced together over several shots from different angles.  Thanks

Paul,

If you came to me, here is what I'd have you try.

Your bow hand is too deep into the grip of the bow.  This is "built in" torque.  Do a search on this forum for a thread called "grip question" for a suggested grip.

Your string hand thumb is sticking straight up.  Many shoot OK this way but I would have you try getting that thumb down so it disappears into the palm of your hand.  This will greatly reduce tension in your string hand and help with a smoother release.

Finally, don't try to resist the natural recoil of your sting hand and arm.  Let it go in it's natural direction (back).  Trying to hold it static  on your face makes you use muscles that are not needed for the shot and causes a collapse in your shot as you try to anticipate the release and stop your hand from moving.

As far as developing a more dynamic release, some work with a Formaster should help you to learn to maintain your back tension and keep pulling through the conclusion of the shot.

Let me start with this,

Mr. Moe, thank you very much for the advice.  I will start with one piece at a time and try to incorporate all of your advice a little at a time.  I do feel the torque is affecting my shot more than anything and will working on my grip immediately.  I posted that video hoping you would see and could give me some pointers.  I will work on some progress and try to show you something new on video very soon.

Dave, I am jealous of you Mule Deer and will look at the formaster for a training aide.  Thanks

From what I could see, Arne was right on about the thumb up and being "too static" with your release.

I would add that I think you would get your elbow back further and achieve better alignment if you didn't bring your head into the string while drawing.  Keep your head back and still, and bring your hand to your face.

Started working on my grip today.  Arne, was completely right.  I adjusted my grip according to the "Grip Question" post and have seen a difference in torque.  I have also started tucking my thumb into my palm.  It has a different feel to it, but I like the way the arrows are flying when I am executing right.  I need to work on not collasping at the shot and anticipating the release.

Guru - your right as well, I am trying to keep good posture and not lean into the string.  Plenty to work on for now.

It is very encouraging to have all the support.  Thanks guys.  I will try to have another video up after I have practiced my shot a little bit more.
