Form Check

Hi Everyone,

I've been shooting a recurve since I was 4.  Now that Im 35, I realized that I was never taught the correct form and am on year 3 of re-teaching myself proper form.  I'm working on staying long enough at anchor to allow myself enough time to aim. Im also working on my back tension and using it during my release.  Lastly, I find that its easier for me to engage my back if I lean forward at pre draw and then lean back as I draw.  Im wondering if anyone can think of any negative consequences to doing that. Any comments about my form would be much appreciated:

 


By the way, reading the posts on this forum have been extremely helpful in helping me re-train myself.  Thank you in advance for your comments

Your release seems to be coming slightly away from your face, and you don't seem to be holding all that long, but is it working for you, that is the question ?

I see that my hand is coming alittle away from my face. I'm going to work on using my back during the release. I don't have target panic BC when I concentrate on holding my anchor and aiming, I do it just fine. I think it's simply a matter of training my brain to do it every time without thinking about it. Thanks for the review.

Good for you 31 years of something one way and then trying to make a change is a huge challenge. I too am making a change but mine is more of a mild change. I was slowly getting a little creep forward once reaching full draw. I have always shot well but noticed I was not always at my best. My main focus has been to get my back fully engaged and then settle in and focus. I have done that by holding at full draw for up to 20 sec for about 3-6 reps and then do another 5-10 reps for 5-15 seconds. I then finish with blank bale shooting. My natural rhythm is to shoot quick. I draw quick so I shoot quick. I do however now settle for just a second or two to make sure I am settled and focused. By following this routine when I shoot now, I can shoot fast and not compromise form or focus. Moebow has been a big help to me, and not shooting at a target for a few weeks has made a huge difference for me because all my focus has been on form. Good luck and keep at it.   :thumbsup:   I almost forgot I found my real draw length by doing these drills. I have found over 1" of draw length that I have had all along. I was around 28.5" before I started and am now just over 29.5".
