Hitting left
« on: September 21, 2014, 11:31:00 AM »
Hi folks,
I have been strugling all summer long with hitting left of target. I know what the problem is, but cannot correct it.
My release is ok,but I have a problem with twisting my bow hand towards my chest. It is not just my wrist, but my arm. It seems to be a natural reaction when I release.
Anything I can do for this?
Thanks
Mike

Mike,

As with any shooting problem, video helps immensely.

I would first question if your bow hand/arm movement has developed as an "on the fly" attempt to fix the left hits at release.  It doesn't take long for this kind of movement to feel like it is uncontrollable when it MAY have started as a last second attempt to "fix" a shot.

Try this a few times.  Hold the bow relatively loosely in the bow hand, hold your bow arm straight (elbow not locked) and consider the bow arm as just a 2X4 beam that holds the bow out there and just presses into your bow shoulder.  That's all, it is just a beam.  Keep the entire arm as relaxed as you can. Then, all the draw movement is on the string side of the body.

Just a idea to try.  VIDEO so we can see what you are really doing.

Don't move the head to string when draw. This makes me shoot left. my bow arm is slightly bent with my shoulder rotated down staying relaxed. If I tense my bow arm while drawing or release I get the same effect. Good luck. Also listen to moebow. That man is a great instructor.
