Injured Middle Finger
« on: October 11, 2014, 01:02:00 PM »
Well I tore a tendon in my middle finger on my string hand around a year ago. Probably happen during a training session, but I'm not really sure. Anyway I have shot split finger since 1996 and have been extremely successful. I try to shoot everyday if schedule and family allow. The injury to my finger has nothing to do with shooting a bow, but shooting hasn't allowed it to heal. I finally went in to the doctor and he told me not to shoot for two weeks. The doc prescribed anti inflammatory and I have been taking it. I tried to shoot a little yesterday and I can still feel a considerable amount of pain. I stopped immediately and rested. Went out today and tried three under for the first time ever. I didn't have as much pain, but I noticed that the tips of my shooting fingers were getting numb. Anybody have this trouble shooting three under? First thought is I'm creeping a little on the shot and the string is hitting them. I shoot a tab. I shot pretty well today shooting three under and if this is better in the long run for my finger I will stick with it. My finger can't be surgically repaired and the docs couldn't tell me if it would heal to a point that shooting wouldn't be a problem. Only time will tell. Any thoughts or ideas.

Joel Turner (Clickerman) switched to a thumb ring.  Don't know if he still uses it or not, but it would avoid the problem with your middle finger.  Joel has kindly offered to discuss anyone's target panic problems on the phone, and I'm sure he would also be happy to advise you about the use of a thumb ring.  I took his posts about target panic to the top so you could get his phone info or write him a PM, if you wish.

Has the two weeks been up yet?   Not the same injury, but I tore a bicep tendon back in early April. I went to a shoot the next day and it was touchy (bow arm). It is just now starting to feel close to normal again.

Listen to the doctor and let it heal up.

Craig, you got me. I didn't wait two weeks. The finger started feeling better and I decided to give it a try and I have definetly backed off. I got some great advice from Dan Toelke and Joel Turner. Thanks to everyone!!!
