It depends on the archer. Technically, it is not (or is not suppose to be) a true Pavlov type response.

Many archers learn to feel the vibration instead of the noise. It is much more consistent.

I have my clicker very quite so all I feel is the vibration of the clicker going off, no sound involved.

I have shot side by side with people shooting a clicker and had no trouble releasing when their clicker went off. I have had to let down because my concentration went from pulling to something else.

I've never used a clicker, but we do have some people here who do junior shooting programs that feature Oly recurve.  This kid (teenager) was supposedly pretty good (he was a 59 or 60x shooter later with compounds).  He apparently had become pretty conditioned to shooting on the sound of the clicker at that point.  I had no idea that it could be conditioned that deeply back then, but the guy who owned the shop did know something about it and I think dropped the screw, knife, whatever, on purpose because he suspected what would happen.  It sure popped some eyes when he let it go, I'll tell you!  The owner did make sure he was aiming at a bare wall at time, thankfully.

There is a long tp post started by Joel Turner that has been a big help to a lot of shooters. The reason you cannot make it click when actually shooting is because you are focusing on the click and not on the action that gets you to the click. Also I didn't see any one mention anything about a mantra in this thread.I think having a mantra is an important part of using any non anticipatory psycho trigger.

Yes you are correct for sure. I have shot a clicker for about 3 years. When I first started shooting with one I did well but after a while you start to know when the clicker will go off and it causes you to anticipate the clicker. So I had to make myself focus on my mantra of "keep pulling", doing that keeps me from anticipating the click. You have to really make sure your mind is totally focused on your mantra.
