Liar's Line.

Gun-Barreling, on sighting down the shaft?  At full draw is the arrow directly under the peripheral? Are we to actually subconsciously point/aim with the shaft??  or is it supposed to be off to the side a little???    Whatcha think.

I would think you'd get different opinions on this aside from whether aiming is "trad" which is not my concern. I do what helps me become the most accurate with my equipment and make clean kills.  I started out shooting split and went to 3U several years ago. I would have bet money the whole time the arrow was directly under my eye until I started playing around with a fixed crawl which brought the arrow up to the point where I am "gunbarreling" and the shaft is actually to the right in my periphery.  I'm still using it to aim, but it's somewhat of a triangulation with my non-dominant eye playing a part also. When I drew looking into a mirror I realized why for the first time...the corner of my mouth anchor is not directly under my pupil but more toward the corner of my eye. This is easily rectified with a slight cant if the shaft wasn't 3/4" above my fingers with the crawl. With my facial geometry I'd have to anchor under the chin "Oly style" to sight directly down the shaft, but I think it would be an advantage to be able to do so.

It would be best to be directly under your eye, but you might find that it's hard to "see through" the string and actually use the arrow to aim if both were perfectly aligned.  I align the string blur in a consistent place along the inside edge of the riser, where I can just see the shaft running out aligned with the string on the right edge of the shaft.  That works for me, and I had to play with my anchor and string alignment quite a bit to find this position.  Until I did, I would shoot left consistently.

Agree with Diamond P but also look at deep hook with fingernail(s) fully flush to cheek..aka tips back toward draw shoulder..firmly convinced that gets arrow closer to under dominant eye.If I start hitting left a lot,a quick check on this deep hook brings things around.FingerTIP in corner of
mouth doesn't "get'er done" for me.
That and "puckering" my mouth to meet the string.
Good luck,Mike

The human mind likes to line things up, especially when we aim. To use the arrow for aiming and not have it directly under the spot is only making things harder than needed.
