So I was shooting yesterday, I have been shooting every day as much as possible. I recently watched a video where a guy that learned from Howard Hill taught Howards method, think it's called Hitting em like Howard. I liked the idea of a swing draw, so I decided to try this. I like how he handles the arrow by the nock and hope to develop this skill in the future, seems very helpful, especially while hunting as you don't have to look down while nocking.
I start like he does with the bow down and arrow nocked with a relaxed posture, making sure my left shoulder is square to the target. Then I start the draw and swing up in a fluid motion with my draw hand pulling the rest of the way as I come up to full height. I keep the bow canted slightly and pull back to anchor.
I have been somewhat all over the target with good days and bad days, the occasional BAD release with the arrow missing completely. While shooting yesterday and working on getting all these things together, I turned my head and looked at my draw hand with at anchor, I saw that my hand had a good angle, my wrist was cocked out.
I shoot two under so I tucked my bottom two fingers back and placed my thumb firmly ontop of those. Doing this straightened my wrist so that the arrow and my drawing arm were now parallel.
After I discovered this, my grouping considerably tightened up. I discovered the importance of having your arm parallel to the arrow.
This is on of the main reasons I love archery (it is all in your head), you have to have your head in the game. On those days you do, it is amazing. I have much more on this journey ahead of me, another reason I love archery, and traditional in particular, I know it is me putting the arrow where it comes to rest.
