Back tension
« on: January 09, 2015, 01:02:00 PM »
Hello,
I know there is a ton of material on this subject but I may have a unique problem. I cannot get my drawing elbow back far enough to get my forearm to line up with my arrow because my draw is very long. 31.5. I simply run out of arrow. Especially with my wood arrows. What I do is draw the arrow all the way back hit my anchor focus on the spot and concentrate on hooking my elbow around (j) and that is when the bow goes off. Am I missing out by not getting all the way back?

DKdc,

It all depends on your string wrist position!!  IF you start the draw with the wrist OUT, the elbow will already be behind the arrow and IF you maintain that wrist position, the elbow will remain behind the arrow.

It sounds like you are doing it backwards ( VERY common).  You don't move the elbow behind the arrow AFTER reaching anchor, you put it there BEFORE the start of the draw.  In addition to the Video Tradcat mentioned look at "release tips."

Are you willing to give up what you are; to become what you could be?

I will check it out. Thanks. I just shot at on my lunch break and tried to make to rotation tighter to my body by starting to draw with the bow at a lower position and it really helped get my back into it. Starting with relaxed shoulders, flexing romboids and pulling through. I will get my wrist lined up with the arrrow to begin with next time. Thanks and I will try to get a vid out.
