Learn to gap shoot?
« on: February 04, 2015, 12:07:00 PM »
I am wanting to learn how to gap shoot.

I am very proficient @ guessing yardage from my compound shooting days so I don't believe that will be an issue.

Any ideas on where I should start-maybe a good paper to read about it or some videos to watch?

Still hoping to get some more guys on board to get Rod Jenkins out here, if you're interested don't be shy!

Watch jimmy blackmons videos on youtube. He will give you a very good understanding on the gap method. His videos are how I learned. He is quite proficient at gapping! The accuracy he achieves will give us all something to strive for. Cheers SS

Rod did a great job explaining gap shooting in Masters of the Bare Bow vol. 1.

I have heard a lot of good things about those videos from Rod, really hoping to get to meet him in person.

I will also take a look @ Jimmy Blackmon's videos. I always thought I was shooting instinctive, but there is no possible way to not see the arrow/point.

So I figure I might as well start using it rather than just guessing

You will find the gap gets you in the ballpark and then your "instincts" take over from there. At least mine do.

Would it be difficult to go from field points to broadheads?

The length of the heads would be different and I assume that would change the gap?

It doesn't matter since you are really looking at the end of the shaft and not the actual point. All you can see from the shooter's perspective is the radius at the end of the shaft unless you are anchoring down around your adam's apple.
