I could use a form critique
« on: March 27, 2015, 07:34:00 PM »
Good afternoon trad ganger's
Long time listener first time caller.
I am new to archery in general just got my Bear Montana longbow in Jan and been working on building a solid base (and trying not to create too many bad habits.  That being said i over bowed my self with my 50# bow (but no money to buy lighter bow).
I am having a difficult time with my follow through. I really have to force myself to move my arm back more then couple inches and it feels very awkward when i do.

Please take a look at the attached youtube videos and blast away. I can use help as there is no option for help around where i live (that i am aware of).

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Travis,

You aren't doing too bad from what I can see.  I think there is an initial setup problem that MIGHT be inhibiting your shot a little.  Watch the very first video and right at about 10 seconds, before you lift the bow to draw, look at your string hand wrist.  See how the hand is nearly 90 degrees to your arm?  Then you maintain that "wrist in, hand out" position for the entire draw.

That puts your draw entirely into your biceps and you will never get a full transfer into your back.  That in turn kills any follow through.

If you haven't seen my videos, take a look here:
 https://www.youtube.com/user/TheMoebow1/videos

Look at the "release tips" video and the "rubber band" video and see if any of that helps.

You REALLY aren't too far off a good shot and I THINK that the change in wrist position may help.

Are you willing to give up what you are; to become what you could be?
