Clicker Question
« on: May 13, 2016, 10:36:00 AM »
For years ive fought target panic so i started using a clicker and shooting the iron mind system. I love it and it got my love of stickbows back. The one thing i dont like is the added weight of a clicker. I marked a arrow last night and drew the bow to same spot with and without clicker attatched and bow weight was 48.3 without and 49.8 with. Clicker added 1.5 pounds to oast inch of draw. For someone battling tp this doesnt help. What other clicker options are ther. I use the klickety klick

There is a post floating around where Joel Turner goes into detail about the implementation of a grip sear. A form of non-anticipatory trigger that involves your finger nail slipping off a plastic tab on your bow grip.

Can't remember which forum it was on. Maybe Joel can jump on and help out.

For whatever reason the clicker didn't work for me, I was able to anticipate the clicker going off after a few days.  The feather to the nose has worked very well for me as my trigger.  Would like to try the grip sear or tab sear but, haven't got around to it.  Target panic is very frustrating and take much of the fun out of shooting.  Good luck with your battle.

I used a clicker on my target bow, the original, with the that snapped off the end of the arrow.  I needed it to give me a consistent draw length with my target form.  I had a super bad case of TP for a year, I cured it with the alternate eye closing techniques with non-shooting draws.  I shoot longbows mostly and either have my arrows net, front lip of the point comes to the finger, or bop net, where the back of the point touches the finger.  This goes against the grain of carbon arrow tuning for most, making consistent arrow length as a draw check the center of form control, but it works excellent with aluminum and wood arrows.

I love the clicker and it completely changed the way i shoot just hate the way the weight stacks at the end. I dont know if i will ever get away from one. If i shoot a bow without one now it feels wierd.

There are many options for a non-anticipatory psycho trigger other than a clicker, but none that do as good a job as a draw check.  Plus, you like using one, which are good reasons for trying to solve this problem without changing away from a clicker.

As was mentioned above, a target archer's clicker is an option that wouldn't add any draw weight.  However, being in this forum, I would imagine you want to hunt, and a target archer's clicker is not designed to use with a broadhead.

I'm surprised that it would take 1 1/2 # to click a clicker, and I wonder if you have a defective clicker or if something else is going on.  I tried a clicker a while myself, and have read about people here who use them for years, and this is the first time I've heard anyone express this problem.  Another more direct way to check the pull weight would be to get a scale that weighs smaller quantities, like maybe a fish scale, and attach it directly to the chain and pull the chain until it clicks.  I wonder if it would give you the same answer?  Or perhaps just try a different brand?  Or give Joel a call.  He has experimented a lot with clickers, and might have other ideas.

Years ago i hooked a small scale to one and it was like 5 pounds to click it. I think its only 1.5 extra pounds while actually on bow due to mechanical advantage? Not sure but i certainky know when my clicker string it tight and know i just need a bit of back tension or push to click it.

If you are right about mechanical advantage, then ways to increase mechanical advantage would be to run the string from the clicker to the bow string at an angle from the limb to the bowstring, rather than straight across, and/or to place it higher on the limb.  Both would Increase the amount of movement required to actuate the click, which should increase mechanical advantage.

Hey I' just had an idea for mechanical advantage. Let's put little wheels on the clicker to get M. A.
Would that still be traditional???  ;)

I have completely eliminated my tp by using his system without a clicker. I simply focus on the individual steps to make the shot. The first step is just to reach a solid anchor. No slow drawing, just get to anchor. Then the shot process can begin. Iron mind archery saved my traditional career.
