Form Critique, Please
« on: July 27, 2016, 08:43:00 PM »
Any and all critique welcome.

Except the filming as it was done by my 7 yr. old. :>)

Video one:     Video 1-

Video two:   https://paultedrickphotography.smugmug.com/Shooting/n-sPVqjG/i-bRWJsFQ/A

In the 1st video, am I dropping bow arm?

In the 2nd video I’m wondering if it looks like my string arm is out of alignment?

Do you  think I’m shooting a little fast, etc.?

In video 1, you do not reach an anchor in the first two shots.  The third is better, in that you reach an anchor.  I believe that a solid anchor and stop point is important so work on that third shot form.

In the second video it's too hard to see where you end up before release but yes, the elbow could come around more before you release.

PS.  I wouldn't worry about the bow arm for now. Work on a SOLID bone on bone anchor first.

Thank you, Arne, for your comments.  I was hoping you would see this.

Anchor:  ok, I'll work on slowing it down a bit and pause / settle in at anchor.

This is actually shooting slower than I used to and it feels like I'm holding forever.

I used to have TP very badly and anchor 2-3" before my mouth, in the air, and shoot faster.

Since switching to fixed bow arm and 3 under and slowing it down to what you watched, I'm shooting much better but I'm still not fully happy.

I'll work on that anchor and see if I can bring the string arm around that little bit more and then repost at some point, with better video.

Do you have any suggestions on how to settle in and  pause that extra bit of time to have a solid anchor or as you stated, a "stop point"?  Or do I just DO IT   :>)

Speed has little to do with it!  Try to get the bones in your hand to press against the bones in your face in the same place EVERY TIME!!

In your video, you are just kind of passing through and not hitting any references..  Try shooting with no target to be hit and just concentrate on hitting your face references, bone on bone for a while (couple of weeks), then return to a "target."

Thank you, this is helpful.   I'll work on hitting the references  / bone on bone.  What you say makes sense.

You are loosing an inch to an inch and a half in draw length.  Don't need an overhead or rear view for this one at the moment.....

Your drawing elbow is closer to 4 o'clock than 6.

Check the form clock thread featured near the top of this forum.

Once you get that straightened out, pardon the pun, post another video and lets see where you're at...
