Lefty always hitting low and to the right
« on: August 18, 2016, 08:11:00 PM »
Start by saying I am a newbie and have been to trying to figure this out for the past 2 years. No clubs or instructors here in Pittsburgh. I am shooting a 40 lb Kodiak Hunter and arrows always going low and right. What complicates is that I am a lefty but right eye dominant. Read the books by Asbell and Sorrels but can't figure it out. So far off that I don't dare hunt. Almost ready to bag it and go back to my compound. Help!

What is your actual draw length and what shafts are you shooting? I'm betting they are too stiff and nock point is off. Too bad you're not closer, but there has to be someone around who can give you some hands-on help.
Any members in the Pittsburg area? For online coaching check out Youtube videos by Arne Moe and Jimmy Blackmon. These two are really good.

Draw length is 29 and I am shooting Easton gamegetter 2016 cut at 30.5 inches. If it was just the one bow I would say it is my setup. Funny thing is a I have a 55 lb super Kodiak where I have the same problem. Matter of fact bought the 40 lb bow because I figured it would be easier to diagnose the problem with a lighter bow. Stumped!Really enjoy shooting wood but as a hunter I can't ethically hunt with this situation.

I am also LH and right eye dominant and just got back into it earlier this year. I am also using 2016's but at 28.5" with 145gr tips and getting good flight with both a Black Bear 40# at my 26" draw and a Chekmate Attila 47# at 26" so yours could be weak at 30.5". Check out paper testing to make sure your set up is tuned.

Videos by those mentioned will help and also can recommend Jeff Kavanagh videos for basics on form. Jeff is also cross dominant and seeing him shoot is inspiration to keep at it. I shot close range (5yds) working on form until one day it just clicked and the shot felt right and repeatable. Good luck.

I'm a lefty, and my first thought was the same as mahantango, As in to stiff, and nock high. But if this is common to other setups, It is probably in your release. Check for a slight pluck, and make sure your not anchoring too far away from your face. I have experienced this same thing.

Plucking the string on release will do that, as will other things.  I would watch that release first.

There is a tremendous resource available to us. If you can video your shot and post it on here, I'll bet Arnie Moe or several others could pick several probable causes.
