PVC form bow
« on: August 27, 2017, 11:02:00 PM »
Just finished reading Jay Kidwell's book AGAIN and decided to make a PVC dry fire bow to work on form with additional reps in between actual shooting. Used a 66" piece of 3/4" PVC and parachute cord with about 10" BH to prevent forearm contact and tied on four pieces of rubber tubing to reduce the awful twang. It feels to be about 20# at 26". Anyone use or have used one? If so, what was your regiment like and your results?

I am doing this too. Training as Jay advocates. Mixing it in w regular shooting.

Bears can attack people- although fewer people have been killed by bears than in all WWI and WWII combined.

I made several PVC tube bows for the use you describe. I would caution you that every one I made broke at the hand grip area sooner or later. And some much sooner than later! I wrapped each one with strapping tape followed by duct tape so they did not fly apart when they let go, but even so the snap will definitely get your attention. A PVC bow filled with a fiberglass rod will give you more draw weight and will also prevent a broken PVC tube from flying apart.  Perhaps the PVC bows made by the Backyard Bowyer(You Tube)where he heats and flattens the limbs will result in a longer lasting PVC bow. I never got that far.

Thanks for the warning Dan!
I'm only drawing 26" so hopefully it lasts a bit. I'll wrap some tape around the handle section to hopefully keep it from blowing up. This thing is the definition of handshock! My hand is actually sore from it and I don't have any hand issues to start with.
