Pocket lunch
« on: November 22, 2003, 07:06:00 PM »
This is what I often take for a lunch when I go for a day's hunt.
Take a large moose burger patty and place it on heavy foil, next place a slice of potatoe  or slices to cover the burger 1/2" thick.Next add thin sliced carrots to cover the potatoe.Now add a sliced onion 1/4" thick a small paty of butter and salt and pepper., turn everything over and repeat the same ingredients .{The order is important as carrots take longer to cook than potatoes and the onion is there to protect the rest from burning.}

now wrap everything loosely in the foil. turn it over and wrap it again in foil.

In a small fire pull aside some coals and toss the lunch in, it takes 7 minutes on the first side , then turn it over and cook it for 5 minutes on the second side..Pull it out and enjoy a meal fit for a king!! the only utensil you need is a fork.
Burn the foil in the fire to get rid of the juices etc and put it in your pack to be disguarded .
Please make sure the fire is in a safe location and it is out when you are finished.
Pete
PS, If you don't have moose, any other burger will do, even beef!!
