Black Bears in Arkansas
« on: May 03, 2003, 09:33:00 PM »
I would like to give bear hunting a try and looked to Arkansas since I live in Oklahoma but according to the Arkansas game folks the season was closed.  How come, and barring that any info of hunting there would be appriciated.

Dan,
As far as I know the bow season opens October 1st, 2003.. I will have to call down, but I have a Black Bear trip planned and payed for this October. I bowhunted two years ago south of Fayetteville and there were 4 bears killed the first week of October.Arkansas is great! Lots of deer and Bear of which both can be taken with a 125$ out of state tag.

I spoke with my Bear guide and the Arkansas DNR people.. Bowseason opens October 1st..!! Baiting is allowed on private property(at least in Zone 1 and2).. According to my guide he has more bears now then anytime he can remember.. Lets hope things work out come October...

How would someone go about getting in on a Black Bear hunt?  I have never been and it is at the top of my list.  I always have people say "oh yea I wanna go, lets do it" and they bail for one reason or the other.  Im going to have to do it alone.  How can one be sure they are hooking up with the right guide.

Spur,

Are you going to hunt bears in Arkansas? Have you looked for a guide yet?

Dan,
I just sent an E to your address.. I hope you get it and call Darrell down in Winslow.. He and Diane are regular people who work hard for their bowhunters.. I had a great hunt in beautiful country and am going back this October 1st to chase bears with my longbow.. Hope to see you down there if Darrell is not already full the first week of season..
