I just got my first 3_D target. It's a boar, and I'm looking forward to some fun shooting in the back yard at something other than my bag target. My question is, what do you all use for a base on these things so they don't tump (new word) over when you shoot them. Thanks

does yours have two pieces of pipe in the bottom of the feet?  if so you can either get two short pieces of metal rebar and drive into the ground and then set target on them. Or, like ive seen at one club, take a length of 2x4 cut holes big enough for the pipe to go threw and then take couple pieces of 4x4 to act as cross members to stablize it.  it would look like a " H " when you get done.

I built a base similiar to the one above out of 2X4's, then used long threaded rod for the leg posts to sit on. Lastly I added two small lawm mower wheels to one end so I can move it around the yard with little effort.

I've made the 2x4 type described above. A friend designed one that I like the best.

It can be made out of wood but any metal will work. One piece 3 to 4 foot long is layed perpendicular to the targets front leg,a hole is
drilled through the leg so it can be bolted to the support. The last step is to go up the leg about 6 to 8 inches, you may have to trim the foam, drill another hole and add a brace back down to the ground support at a 45 degree angle.

This one leg support will do the job. We used unistrut for the long piece.

I've seen one of our clubs use rebar,they make the base like a Y with a rebar welded up like a post.Look like chicken feet and they will fit any target.

Thanks for all the ideas. I went home last night and cobbled one up using the best of all your posts. It came out really nice and I don't believe it will ever "tump" over. Thanks

I would also advise applying a protectant such as 303  or some other UV blocker.  I leave mine outside and my wife made a nylon cover for it also.  They will last much longer that way.

Here is a target sled.

(2) 2 x 4 Sled rails cut to the length you want.
(2) 2 x 4 cross members cut to the width you want.
(2) Pieces of  ½” all thread cut to the length that you want.
(4) Flat washers
(4) Nuts


Cut an angle in at one end of the two boards that will be the sled’s rails and drill a hole in the end above the angles.

Drill a ½” hole in each of the cross members.

Fasten the cross members to the sled rails.

Put a nut and a washer on each of the all threads about 2.5” up.

Pass the all thread through the cross members.

Put a washer and nut on the under side of the cross member and tighten.

Tie a rope through the holes in the target sled.
