« on: April 19, 2007, 10:46:00 PM »
hi guys
got a scrub bull and water buffalo hunt commin up in july, was wondering if the 125gr zwickey  would hold up to the task? total arrow weight would be 800gr. i can get them sharp and they shoot well just a question of will they be strong enough?

thanks andy

The Zwickey is a good blade.  On the other hand, while they are not cheap, I think the German Kinetics SilverFlame Broadhead is the finest two bladed head currently made.  If it were me, I'd use the SilverFlame.

Cheers from Alaska

The Zwickey is a perfect head for water buffalo.  Dale Karch and Denny Stugis Jr. both took bulls last year with Zwickey heads and they performed flawlessly.  I think Dale is back after them again right now with the same head again.  You might PM Denny for more details and he can tell you exactly how that head will perform on ribs, ect.  dino

I did a bunch of penetration tests a few years ago and the Zwickey Eskimo was one of the best heads, right behind the Grizzly. One of the hunters I guided, used the Eskimos and killed a very big buff, with one Grizzly to the heart. I didn't use them myself, since I needed much more point weight to balance my arrows and I think the Grizzly is a better head for the really big animals.

working as a guide in Tanzania
I have some oportunities to try some swickey heads on dead buff with poor results three heads on four were twisted after hitting ribs
On the other hand one of my hunter has killed a buff and an hippo with the same heads !!

just an experience

My personal preference on the really big animals is the 190 Grizzly. If you are shooting 800 grain arrows, you will need a heavy head up fron to balance them. My buff arrows weigh 970 grains and that is with 190 Grizzly and 110 grain steel adaptor.
