Dangerous Game Arrows

A friend of mine just informed me that Easton has introduced an Axis Full Metal Jacket dangerous game arrow. The grain per inch on this shaft are either 15.5 or 17.2 and spine .300 or .250 respectively. I did some calculations and if you load up the front end with 100 grain inserts and 200 grain broadheads you should have an arrow weight of 800 to 900 grains.

I wasn't aware of this new arrow and I thought those that were looking for a dangerous game setup might be interested...

that's interesting, Tilz. A buddy of mine is going for cape this summer in Africa and I was wondering what we were going to do for him arrow shaft wise.

I have a question for yall.

These arrows, in .300 spine, with a 125 grain broadhead adapter, and a 160 grain Ace broadhead, left full length or possibly cut to 30" would this shoot out of a 60# R/D bow?

That equates to an 800 grain arrow. Good medicine for big hogs. But only if it will shoot correctly that is. I would think if left long, with that heavy of a point combo up front, it would perform well. Except for dropping like logs past 15 yards.

lbkid im betting that a 300 would probably be a little stiff for a not cut to center rd lb. at least for me i draw 29.5 61lb shrew and i had to put 400 something up front of a 300 parralell shaft.

The problem with "loading up the front" is "bringing down the spine". Depending on the bow and your draw length the BIG problem for dagerous game arrows is NOT in getting a heavy arrow, but in getting a heavy arrow with enough spine and pefect flight.

having a big game shaft that's 16gr/" goes against what most of us are trying to achieve in a dangerous game arrow. 800gr+ with most of the weight up front for EFOC. it would be better if they were 8gr/" but stiff enough to take heaps of point load out of 70#+ bows.
shaft makers need to come up with something real light but real stiff.

The problem is the market is not big enough to be worthwhile, look how long we had to wait for ANY carbon shaft for trad bows.

I have hunted Cape buffalo 3 times ,killing one.My arrows are Beman Max 4 shafts in the 300 spine, 12.5 grains per inch. I am shooting 330 grains of total point weight, this includes insert. I also use the 8 grain weight tube which is stuffed with .095 weedeater cord making the weight tube 10 grains per inch. My 30 inch arrows finish at 1030 grains with feathers and fly like darts out of my 75 lb recurve.

Cape buff is something else with a bow and I was planning on usen my BW 75# recurve if I ever got the chance to hunt 'em.

Al, Yes I do but I am so computer illiterate it will take some time or help to get them on line. I am saving for my next buffalo hunt, hopefully next year. I am going to change to the Asbys head, was not a option when I killed my buffalo. If anyone would need to increase spine in these shafts a 1212 easton arrow slips inside perfectly and .130 weedeater cord can be powerbonded inside to bring the weight up. These 1212 shafts are kid shafts so they are short but can be backed up by regular weight tubes.
