String Tracker for Bear on Longbow?

Has anyone used a string tracker on a longbow with a strap on quiver. Any suggestions on set up - arrow flight?

It is a small device that holds 2500ft of lightweight threadlike string that is attached to bow and arrow. It helps recover game in thick cover. Used mostly for turkeys and bear.

I know we can't use lighted nocks in my state, are these restricted anywhere?

I use them for deer, pig and for my up coming trip to Africa.  Once you get each arrow tuned and flying well with the unit, they work great.  Med to heavy arrows that are bareshaft tuned to the broadhead should shoot well but try each arow.  1 out of every 7-8 arrows just don't take to it.  Look up string tracker in the shooting forum or if that doesn't work pm me.  I hate typing.

I used a sting tracker on the very first black bear I killed and never after that.  The bear went 15-20 yards after being spined and the string broke before the bear died.  The string on the arrow effected the arrow flight and contributed to the spine shot.  The other bear I have killed a string tracker wouldn't have helped because they went less than about 30 yards.  The bear I have lost I doubt seriously that they could have been found with a string tracker.  If a black bear is mortally wounded, he will be found within 140 yards of the shot.  Heart or lungs 30 yards.  Liver, 100+ yards before they lay down.  I won't use them but if you do, remember that nothing will make up for a bad shot and with a good shot you shouldn't need one.  I guess it really depends on the thickness of the cover and the skill of the tracker.

Tried it before, affects arrow flight. Not worth the aggravation.

If your bow is tuned right it shouldn't affect arrow flight up to about 20 yds. I set one up for turkeys this year but didn't get to use it on one but in my testing at 20 yds I couldn't tell any difference but at 25yds I was 8" low.

Like said before if you hit a bear in the lung area he will not go 50 yds but in the  guts you may run out of string.

Strapped  tracker on ACS. Arrow flight was good at 18yds.  
Have it attached using the Eastman mounting bracket - don't want to put hole in quiver to mount tracker. Have it mounted right above arrow on riser. The only problem I have is getting used to the extra weight on bow - sticks out like a stabilizer.

I always use one when bear hunting. My last bear went a long ways(400-500 yds) and never would have found it without the string. It did break after appoximately 200 yards but by then the bear had slowed to a walk and we were able to follow the drops. I just taped the holder to the side of the bow just above my hand and didn't notice any difference in arrow flight out to 20 yards. Most of my bears pile up within 40 yards.

Great Northern make sa thing called a "gadget adapter" that fits around the riser just like their quiver with rubber straps.  It allows the use of any of the screw-in accessories like a game tracker, fishing reel seat, etc. Works good on a longbow.
