MARTIN JAGUAR RECURVE

MARTIN JAGUAR RECURVE

Anyone remember this bow?  It was made in the mid-sixties.  It had a wierd riser section that was curved forward, semilar to the looks of a BEAR SUPER KODIK, except that the shellf sat way back almost over the wrist.  In effect, it pretty much was a built in overdraw, allowing you to shoot shorter arrows.  I have kept my eyes open for one on eBAY and other sources, but have never seen one available.  I called MARTIN ARCHERY customer service, but the young guy on the phone said he knew nothing of them.  He said he would speak to Gail Martin about it and get back to me, but he never did.

Anyone have one, or know of one?

How have you been? I have heard of a Sanders like you describe. Check out this link martin had some interesting designs.  martin history

I remember a compound called the jaquar like you describe it might have also been posible to fit there recurve limbs on that handle. There recurve limbs would fit on many of the compound handles.

The Jaguar of the Early sixties was not a takedown.  It was a one piece recurve with a wood riser.  It was wierd looking.  I remember seeing them advertised for a couple of years in Archery Magazine.  Maybe someone  still has som old copies of Archery Mgazine and could check it out

These bows are Jaguar. Not built by Martin. This photo is from a 1959 Bow Hut Catalog.

Owens made a jaguar and it had a emblem on it that looks like the martin emblem. dont know if they made a model like you are looking for.

Ive always thought sanders made some great bows. Here is one the style you are talking about.

The martin bows i would like to find are a Dynabo and the made a special edition longbow called the mammoth hunter.

Now I am 57 years old, but I don't think I am gettig "Oldtimers desease" yet.  I distinctly remember the MARTIN JAGUAR.  The fact that Martin has a compound named the JAGUAR makes me think I am right in that many companys recycled their recurve names to later compounds..  Picture the riser on a bear SUPER MAGNUM, but move the arrow shelf back over the wrist, and that is kinda how it was made, if I am thinking right.  I also vaguely remember a bow that had a handle mounted on two rods (one below and one above the wrist.  It attached to the riser and was adjustable in and out to give variations in the draw length, wit the arrow shel over the wrist.  I may be getting confused, and that may be how the JAGUAR riser was made.

C'mon, somebody has a collection of old ARCHERY MAGAZINES that can find one of these ads.

That Saunders is a beauty.  Did you just find a picture, or do you have the bow?

I dont doubt you at all. If anyone made an unusal bow it would have been Martin. This is one of my favorites they made it for the olympics but it was outlawed

As you can see the had a compuond riser like you talk about so they probally had a recurve first

I wish the saunders was mine its on the Martin history page of thier websight.

The first bow pictured above looks like the HOWATT EL DORADO

You just missed owning one .  There was one just on eBAY.

  http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=20839&item=3680150643&rd=1

As you can see it went for big bucks.

The hand grip on the BLACK RAM pictured is exactly what I was talking about, but I seem to remember one like that on a recurve.  The more I think about it though, the old JAGUAR riser was as I described as being semilar to a Bear SUPER MAG with the arrow shelf over the wrist.  Now is when I wish I had kept that big ole stack of Archery Magazines that I had colelcted for years.
