How did PA bear hunters do?
« on: November 30, 2007, 08:50:00 AM »
Like I had posted before, my son and I headed out to SGL 86 for the Monday of regular bear season.  We had a plan for me to work a drainage up the mountains towads him while he made his way to the head of the drainage.  We had never been there before and were using the Game Commissions SGL topo maps.  There was alight dusting of snow and our plan worked perfect.  About 3/4 of the way up I cut freash sign of a bear eating acorns.  I slowly made my way up and into some thick saplings interspersed with boulders.  I was almost at the head of the drainage when I here a loud gun go off right above me.  You guessed it, a 150# bear was working his way in front of me and right towards my son and somebody had come in from the other side of the mountain and said, "Wow, this is only my 3rd year of hunting and this bear walked right to me!"  Oh, well, it was a good plan and close!

No bears in Pennsy? That's cause they get scared and swim across the Delaware into Jersey! Those buggers are gettin' smart too. They know they're safe here they have our Governor on their side.

Monday..my feathers reflected my mood as I waited patiently for more frosted flakes to be released by the GODS of evergreens above me. I refused to cave into poor thoughts of..I suck..I'm cold..there is a cold puddle forming under my butt pillow as the snow began to melt there. Now mind ya, I can't shoot more than directly below my tree due to my lack of skill. (I pray that will improve but that is what I'm stuck with on the 1st day of bear season) I got me a backup plan when all else fails..a Hershey bar with almonds(before they move to China!) All is right in the world as I melt to get to almonds when here she comes. Snow doesn't melt on bears! Follows my tracks right under my treestand! I leaned over the left side as she turned slightly and snapped-off a beautiful..prolly underexposed pic of a 230lber!
