Blue Zwickeys
« on: June 30, 2005, 11:23:00 PM »
I apologize for forgetting the story behind these. I bought some a number of years ago, asked about them at that time, and I think Noelle knew the story behind them.

If memory serves it had something to do with Jack getting a deal on blue paint in '84 or '86, but people didn't want to buy the blue ones. They thought the heads were seconds, the quality wasn't as good, or something to that effect. So Jack had to go back to green after less than a year of using blue.

If someone could refresh my memory with the exact details, I'd appreciate it. Thanks.

I've blue, green and some black ones at difference times.  Looked though my file on Zwickey and read John Zwickey's historical accounting of bidness and saw nothing on why the color change.  I could understand how folks would think that, though, as archers are a peculiar lot.   :)

I would have to agree with your version Jason. It's about what I heard in the late 80's.
I do have the blue ones in my collection even though it is not reconized by the ABCC.

I was under the impression that the color changed as the weight of the head increased.Because I too have some green and blue heads and I thought I bought them for heavier grains.

I just checked my stash of Zwickeys and found Deltas of blue, green and black.  The black one has "Zwickey" in an arc on the left edge.  I was thinking it about 1970...anyone know?

The curved Zwickey stamped started in the 1950s and continued on into the the 60s.
