Passing the tradition, take a kid hunting!
« on: November 30, 2007, 04:24:00 PM »
Kelly and I have a young girl ( my daughter's friend) Michaela staying with us for a spell, while her family works out some issues.

She has not been exposed to alot of outdoor stuff, so I decided it was time to take her on her first bowhunt! ( as an observer)    :)

Unlike alot of 17 year old girls, she got all gussied-up in some wool, let me paint her face and sat very still and quiet for 2 1/2 hours in a ground set-up with me on the edge of a big cornfield. It was very windy and cold, I was worried about her not liking it...
To my surprise she LOVED it and wants to go again!!    :)
She also expressed interest in obtaining her hunting licence after taking the mandatory hunter's safety course here in Ontario.
I told her I would pay for it if she want to take it.

She is going out again this weekend with me, Frenchymanny and hopefully, Bearhair.
It is important that we try to pass the torch to young hopefuls when the sport we love may be dying off with us older hunters (well, if fourty-ish is old...   ;)    )

Here are some pics of her fist outing; no deer were seen, but we had to leave just at primetime to get ready to go to the movies...LOL

Very cool. That's what it's all about we especially need more young ladies in the sport, that would also go a long ways to kindling the interest in the young men. Good on you.

Good on you brother.  That is just down right AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!  I cannot wait until my little girl and nephew are old enough to get out.

Until then I am taking a couple of boys out after the gun hunters clear out of the woods next week.  I hunt on a buddies property and offered to show his 8 and 12 year old sons something other than shotgun hunting.  Gonna be a great time.

That's fantastic, looks like a lot of good things are heading her way.
