They were made between 1958-1975. You might want to contact Larry Hatfield on the Tradtalk forum, he knows everything there is to know about Howatts.

HEY THANKS GUYS. IGOT AHOLD OF LARRY ONTHE OTHER SITE. WHAT HE SAID REALLY BLEW ME AWAY. HIS ANSWER IS : "our best guess is 1956. the green is gordon glass from that era.
assuming that the year is correct, the bowyer would have been t.j. stewart, bills brother. after 1958-59 that number was used by jim hook.
we think that was the start of the more sweeping recurve that damon called sweptwing or "the crab".
prior to that the recurve had the appearance of a static curve like the old steamed and bent self bows.
don, our lamination guru has been here since 1958 and i've only been here since 1961, so thats the reason we are guessing."  ITS A REAL SWEET BOW. I NEVER THOUGHT IT WAS THAT OLD BECOUSE OF THE CONDITION.    AGAIN THANKS ALOT

Someone will correct me if I am wrong,  but I am pretty sure the "NE PLUS ULTRA" indicates an all rosewood riser.  This was done mostly on the earlier models.  Every Howatt bow I have ever seen with "NE PLUS ULTRA"  had a solid rosewood riser.  These bows were made just the same as the other bows with bubinga, and other hardwoods, but the rosewood was considered to be the most desirable.
