recurve bow
« on: August 29, 2006, 02:26:00 PM »
I wonder if anybody can tell me who made the recurve bow I have. There is no manufacturer on the bow. I hunted with it in the 70s. My father won it in a raffle. Its a nice bow. I was checking web sites and the prices of recurve bows are ridiculous. It is marked Black Hawk Short Hornet. Also 970 asn or ash 3535 46# 28" 57 1/2" Just curious. My grandson is starting to shoot and I might actually start shooting again. Thank you for any help

Bill,
I believe your bow was made by Cravatto Brothers.Don't know much about them but you might be able to find something out with the name.

Bill, johnnyrazorhead is exactly right.  The bow you have was made by Cravotta Brothers Archery out of McKeesport, PA.  They sold a complete line of Black Hawk bows, arrows and accessories.  The Black Hawk bows I've had seem to be pretty decent shooting bows.  I've had three Short Hornets and all three were different colors of wood and fiberglass combinations.  Sometimes the glass was black and one of them the glass was a patina green.  I'm not aware of anyone out there collecting these bows, so the cost to buy one is still reasonable.  As with all older laminated bows pay close attention to the condition of the laminated areas before string or shooting the bow.  If the tiller at the top limb versus the bottom limb appears to "lop sided" I wouldn't suggest shooting it.  Otherwise shoot it and have fun.  That's what archery is all about.
