anybody has $35.000 for me?

Hi there!
Probably many of those who frequent this board already know of an eBay-auction which started today and where the "Holy grail of trad archery" is for sale!?                    

Here is a pic of Floyd Eccleston posing with the bow in 1999
     

My question:
Anybody handled / saw this bow at Floyds store, or before with original owner Jolly Jeter? Is it really the ONE and only or just one out of many used by Flynn in the motion picture? How about the thechnical datas of it?

Was it necessary to screw brass plates onto the belly wood???      :confused:               I can imagine 100 ways of attaching something to an other something WITHOUT pooking holes in it ...

I could have asked Richard Eccleston but will not bother him with it as I am not inclined to place a bid - unless I receive some big money from elsewhere though. The whole story might be of some interest for the collectors here ...

Falk-Thanks for your comments on the Robin Hood bow. I sure wish I had a photo of Errol Flynn with the bow. However, the letters do tell us alot about the bow. Very difficult to put a price on it. For those of you who did not know dad or Mr. Jeter or many of the other "Old Timers", they held the highest moral and ethical values any archery could have. Right now the bow is collecting dust and darkness. I am hoping it will go somewhere to be seen and admired. I am with you Falk, the 2 brass plates, to me, takes something away from the bow. But, that was Mr. Jeter's decision. Rich Eccleston

But I truly hope it wasn't because you felt the need to defend yourself, your father or Mr. Jeter, on this subject!?

As I wrote - and also did so on my homepage (though it's all German over there) - I consider this bow as "holy grail of trad archery". I suppose only very few bows can compete(*) with it and as far as popularity is concerned it might be the most known bow on Earth. Billions of people should have seen that particular movie! And of course, it was always one of my own favorites too!

(*) "Simba Blood" or "Grandpa" & "Grandma" ... and what else?!

From the letters you have, can you tell where in the movie this bow is shown? Somewhere I have a pic with Basil Rathbone (in full armor) and Howard Hill who is showing him how to handle a bow or something. That bow is backed with bamboo. Certainly makes sense. Bows at the set were probably very light so that every person was able to perform a full draw.
I can not remember to have seen a yew bow in the movie - but it's some time ago I last saw it. My brother has the DVD. I will borrow it next time and will go through it - frame by frame if needed - to see if I can identify this very bow! It should be possible because of the knots ...

Can you tell something about lenght and weight of that bow? Was it retired because of any damage to it or better not to risk any on it?

If you don't find someone else, I will take care of it for free - absolutely no problem! And I do have lots of dust and dark places at hand - it will feel at home!           :D

Whitout the DVD to prove it I searched the internet a bit and found some movie-captured-photos of Errol Flynn with bow in hand.

There is one which is very close if not a match!
  Have a look!  

The long leather covered grip appears the same here but it doesn't look like yew   in this one
