How to date Grayling T/D limbs, mag risers?
« on: May 17, 2007, 11:25:00 AM »
I've collected a number of Bear magnesium T/D risers and grayling limb sets over the years and was wondering how to age them. Most of what I have read and heard is about dating wood risers, but not much on limbs or mag handles.  Included are white tips, red tips, some with gold weight lettering and some with white, factory camo (white tip) set with green silk screening, and a #1 hunting weight (50#) set with white glass, red tips and red silkscreening (why white glass on hunting limbs?).  The limb serial numbers range from around 4000 to 15000 (can these be traced to a year?).  The risers also have serial numbers, are they in sequential order and can you identify a year they were made based on it? If not, what was the range of the numbers used?  I also have an A riser that has chrome latches and little plastic black bears on the back of the latches.  I believe these black bears were put on the few wood handles that were assembled after 1972; does it mean anything on the magnesium risers?  Thanks for any help as I've always been curious but have never found answers to the above.
