Howatt Blk Mamba

I have a pre-martin damon howatt black mamba recurve. It currently is the only bow I own and what I have cut my teeth on. It was given to me by father in law (it was with a firearm collection he bought & he didn't want it). Does anyone know how good/mediocre/not so good, these bows were/are. I don't want to sell it, I am just curious of their popularity and if these are sought after bows. Any info would be great.

The Mamba is a good bow and very popular, particularly if you don't draw over 28".  The "Mamba" name originated in the mid 1950's with the Mamba series of bows from Howatt which included the Mamba Hi-Speed, the Mamba Hunter and the Mamba Rocket.  The model went away for several decades and was reintroduced in the mid-1980's.  The laminated black version was made from around 1985 to 1997.  Beginning in 1998, the laminated birch was replaced by exotic hardwoods.  The model went back to laminated birch this year (2008).

Thanks for thr information, this particular bow has the laminated exotic wood. Its greenish in color but i don't know exactly what it is.

I have a pre martin momba I got new in 94 and ilove it. it has grey and green laminate and black limbs. I bet I've had 50 people try to buy it over the years. "great bow"
