Herters Identification help
« on: January 06, 2008, 03:12:00 AM »
Greeting all.

I have had this Herters in my possession for a few years now. Its shoots great (56#) and is still in good condition.

I have been trying to get a definitive identification on it but to no avail. No one can understand the serial number and according to the archery archives site it was made possibly in '75.

Below is the image of the serial number. Webcam is all I have at the moment so sorry for the quality:

The # is K.10012750190. Any info would be appreciated. I don't want to sell it but I would like to know its history a bit.

Thanks in advance.

Hi Paul I gotta go with them on this one.The serial number does have the year of manufacture in it on all herters bows..So 1975 would be the date we are seeing...1975 0190 or 190th bow built in that series.I may be wrong but pretty sure thats the date of manufacture..bd

Thanks for the confirmation BD.
I suspected as much but the first "k.100" part didng jive with the arcery archive explanation of that being the bows weight. Perhaps its just a model number.
Thanks again for the info.

Looks like a Kiowa maybe? Does it have any info on the bottom limb belly near the fadeout?

Nothing on the bottom limb. The Herters seal is on the back of the riser but thats it as far is an identifying marks.

The seal says "Internat. Match Hunter 63 1/2 Inch"

Does that tell you something?

Hi Paul

The round seal you are referring to indicates what the model is "International Match Hunter" and bow length. Beware Herters indicated bow lengths were usually 2 inches longer than AMO standard bow lengths. For instance a Herters bow length of 60" would be a 58" bow length according to most other manufacturers back in those days.

Does that help?

Yes, that does help. I am just trying to piece together the history of the bow itself. As near as I can tell, its passed through 4 owners hands (I am the 4th owner) since the early 80s when the first owner picked it up. I have no way of telling who had it prior to that as that first owner passed away some years ago.

Thanks again for the info everyone. It helped a lot.

Paul does it have the letters AMO on the herters sticker anywhere???? Reason I ask is in 1968 AMO set a standard for bow length. All bows should have been braced with a cable supplied by AMO.Maufactured after june or so of 1968 those letters should be on the bow...usely on that sticker... no AMO letters generaly built before 1968.Brian is right on.That was the reason for the standard. Not only Herters but Bear was a big one for the standard string to not fit thier bows eather. But from what I do know about the Herters bows,I would say that 75 is the year of manufacture.....bd
